Many years ago I ran a market stall sourcing the cheapest clothing and selling it for the highest price. Now my market stall is the Internet and my website sources the most sustainable clothing which I sell at reasonable prices and make a charitable donation with every purchase. How times and attitudes have changed and not before time.
As I have had my children and they have blessed me with beautiful grandchildren it has become so important that I do everything I can within reason to help improve the planet they and their children will inherit.
It is within everyone’s gift to make a difference so why wait? Many of us have been brought up on disposable clothing. Wear it a couple of times then throw it away. No thought as to why it’s so cheap and generally poor quality. At BAD TEMPA all of our clothing is 100% organic cotton. Our designs are printed with water based vegan inks with biodegradable packaging. As new materials emerge and are compatible with our business model we will improve our sustainability credentials wherever we can.
The designs on our t shirts and sweatshirts display images relating to both climactic and societal issues. I have personal experience with homelessness. As a young man I ran away from an unhappy homelife, so we have a design to raise awareness for people who for usually no fault of their own find themselves living on the streets.
Other designs shine a light on ocean and air pollution which affect us all. Picking up plastics from our coastlines is an admirable thing to do and I do it regularly with my grandchildren living on the North East coast however we shouldn’t need to do it. Images of wildlife caught up in our debris is a very upsetting sight.
Young children walking to school in inner city areas suffering from asthma due to traffic pollution, and images of belching chimneys is something that needs to be tackled now and not in the future. Over farming of livestock is causing deforestation in the lungs of the earth, the Amazon rainforest. Huge swaths of vital forestry is being wiped out to raise cattle for meat production.
